  • What is Stucco & FRS Fiberglass Reinforced Stucco and how does it work?

Portland cement stucco is similar to concrete, but not as thick. It works like siding or brick veneer to protect a structure from the elements. Today's fiberglass reinforced stucco (FRS) is a mixture of sand, cement, lime, chopped fiberglass, and water. Upgrades include acrylic additives for strength and water-resistance, and fiberglass mats or sheet reinforcing just under the surface for crack resistance. It's usually covered with a thin colored cement finish for looks. Properly applied, it can last a lifetime.

  • What is Synthetic Stucco?

Synthetic stucco is "imitation" stucco made from oil which, essentially, is a textured paint. It was designed for use over special basecoats and reinforcements on commercial buildings, which have special needs and uses. Beware of claims that "it won't crack," or "it's better," which are false. In some cases the use of synthetic stucco can result in a total system failure. Stucco Seal can guide you in it's proper use.

  • How does Matching New to Old Stucco work?

Matching new stucco to old is an art, not a science. Fading, darkening, staining, and the availability of colors from the manufacturer are all factors that affect color matching. For a good contractor, color and texture can be approximated for major repair work if the contractor is willing to do so, or if a condition isn't present which prevents it. Keep in mind, colors and textures can only be approximated, and only on major repairs (3-4 locations at most). Very good results can be achieved in such cases, but perfection should not be expected.
